Heizungscheck (energy check)

A "Heizungscheck" is an energy check-up for your heating system. This inspection quickly and cost-effectively reveals the savings potential of your heating system, including heat production, distribution, and transmission. It is based on the DIN EN 15378 standard.

Your entire system is checked in ten stages by a heating engineer, covering the boiler, radiators, thermostat, pump, and pipes.

A "Heizungscheck" only evaluates the energy aspects of your heating system. It does not look at other aspects, such as technical issues, safety, emissions or compliance with legal requirements (e.g. energy regulations). These are examined as part of the acceptance and periodic inspections.

You will receive the results of your energy check-up in a two-page inspection report. Once the inspection is complete, you can discuss the relevant upgrades to your system with an expert.

Who can apply for energy bonuses in Luxembourg?

Eligibility for energy grants and bonuses

In Luxembourg, eligibility for energy grants and bonuses, such as PRIMe House subsidies and zero-interest eco-loans, is based on several specific criteria. Owner-occupiers and landlords can benefit from these grants to undertake energy renovation work on their primary or secondary residence. Grants are generally available without means testing, but the amount may vary depending on the nature and extent of the work carried out. Grants and bonuses can only be awarded once in Luxembourg

Technical requirements to benefit from an energy grant

Energy renovation work must meet strict standards, often defined by national and EU regulations. For example, thermal insulation must meet a certain thermal resistance coefficient criterion, and heating systems must be extremely energy-efficient. Projects must be validated by a prior energy audit, and a certificate of conformity must be issued once the work has been completed.

How much is the grant for an air/water heat pump?

The amount of your grant depends on the type of work involved. Grants and bonuses are means-tested, i.e. they are based on the applicant's income and family situation, and can amount to more than €10,000 depending on the type of energy renovation project.

questions? FAQs

What are the main benefits of installing a heat pump and solar panels?

Installing a heat pump and solar panels provides a number of benefits.

- Lower energy bills: heat pumps capture energy from the air, water and ground to heat or cool your home thus requiring  much less energy than traditional systems. When coupled with solar panels, which generate electricity from the sun, this can considerably reduce your energy bills.
- Eco-friendly: these systems use renewable energy and reduce CO2 emissions thus helping to combat climate change.
- Energy self-sufficiency: by generating your own electricity and using a heat pump, you are less dependent on energy suppliers and are not subject to price fluctuations.
- Increases the value of your property: homes equipped with eco-friendly heating and electricity-generation systems often have a higher value.

Can these systems work together to maximise energy efficiency?

Yes, heat pumps and solar panels work together very efficiently. Solar panels generate electricity that can be used to power the heat pump. This allows the generated energy to be utilised directly for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water, thereby maximising the energy efficiency of your system. Not only does this reduce costs, it also reduces your home's carbon footprint.

What are the initial costs of installing a heat pump and solar panels?

Initial costs vary depending on a number of factors, such as the size of your home, the type of heat pump you require, the number of solar panels needed, and the specific characteristics of your installation. On average:

- Heat pump: the cost of a heat pump is between €20,000 and €35,000 (including installation).

- Solar panels: the cost of a standard installation is between €10,000 and €35,000 for an output of 3 kW to 20 kW.

These costs can be reduced thanks to various financial aids, subsidies and tax incentives, depending on where you live.
